I think there would be a lot of people quitting their jobs today if they didn't need the paycheck each week. Payroll service employees keep busy because they will always have people waiting anxiously for the next payroll to arrive. Do you remember when you first started your job? Did you have a lot questions regarding payroll, when you would get paid, how to enter you time? My guess that your answer is yes to most of these questions. In order to eliminate the amount of time payroll employees spending answering questions a clear cut training program should be put into place when employees start with the company. Here are a few suggestions.

Make a plan
Take the time to make a schedule. Make sure that you have a list of all the things your new employees will need to learn and all the people that they will need to meet and sit with to understand their new job properly. Don't rush things either. While some situations may be extreme, make sure you take the time to get your employees trained properly.

Know what is Important
There are certain things that new employees will want to know right away. Take the time to make sure they understand their benefits, that they know how to enter their time or complete their timecard. Give them a sheet to sign or something they can take home with them that reminds them when they will see their first paycheck. Highlight or bold deadlines so that they know when paperwork must be completed. You don't want disgruntled employees because you forgot to tell them when to submit their paperwork. The little things will be very important to new employees as they learn the ropes.

Introductions
Give them a tour of the company and introduce them to the employees that they will be working with on a daily basis. By taking the time to show them around and see all the other people in the office, they will have a easier time getting to know people and they will immediately feel a much bigger part of the team. It is often difficult to get to know new people at the office. Make new people feel welcome by bringing them out to lunch the first day or by taking them out for coffee that morning or afternoon. By taking the time to show that you are excited to have them on the team, you will find that they will be much more excited to stay.

Mentors
Many companies set up a program that assigns employees to mentors. This allows people the chance to have a central point of contact for all their questions. It can be a difficult transition into a new job, but when a new employee has someone they can talk to each day about their questions they will feel much better. They will also find they can much more easily build a rapport and start to feel comfortable.

Starting a new job is difficult and can be overwhelming. If companies put good training programs into place they can help welcome new employees with ease.
